What was the movie of ... a blind man and a kid.?

The blind man had a house in some forest/mountain and there was a kid with him but i dont remember much... its not a japanese movie or whatever, its american i think, but the blind man at the beginning didnt like the kids presence but then he started to love him... can you please tell me? I am not sure but i think the blind man was played by mel gibson, but im not sure at all... thanks
