Installing slate on top of existing tile. Good idea or bad?

Existing tile is glazed 12x12 on the walls and floor of a bathroom and about 20 tears old. The floor is plywood-cement board-tile and is structurally sound and unbroken. Is there any reason I can't power wash and scuff the existing tile and slate right over the top of it?.
