What happens when your rear ended and given false information?

Today someone rear ended me in the back, there car took all the damage and my car had nothing more then a scuff which can be buffed out, the person was in a rush and gave me false information we did not call the police nor did I give them any of my information, all I have is a tag number from the plate, do I have anything to go on?
